NOFOs Posted for Competitive HS/EHS Grants in New Jersey, North Dakota, and Texas

On March 14, 2023 three Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) for competitive Head Start/Early Head Start grant opportunities posted on grants.gov. Applications for grants are due May 15, 2023. In addition to accessing NOFOs on grants.gov, they are downloadable from the Office of Head Start (OHS) Funding Opportunities website. Service areas with grants open for competition, estimated funding amounts, and estimated numbers of awards are listed below.New Jersey

  • Head Start/Early Head Start Grantee in Lakewood and Ocean Counties ($723,599, 1 award)

North Dakota

  • Head Start/Early Head Start Grantee in McKenzie and Williams Counties ($1,025,647, 1 award)
Texas
  • Head Start/Early Head Start Grantee in Bowie County ($1,008,629, 1 award)

The approximately 10-week turnaround for these grant opportunities is standard, but the timeline does move quickly! If your program is applying for one of these grants, it will be important to have strategies in place to manage the process thoughtfully and leverage the time available. Below are a few tips to get you started.

  1. Establish timelines for drafting and review that fit team members’ schedules.
  2. Engage partners early and give plenty of advance notice for letters of support and agreements.
  3. Ensure grants.gov credentials are up to date, determine grants.gov assignments, and begin data entry as soon as possible.
  4. Be aware of scheduled maintenance on grants.gov. (Dates and times for scheduled maintenance is published well in advance. Note that you will not be able to access grants.gov during an outage.)

While these three grant opportunities don’t seem to be part of a bigger round of Designation Renewal System (DRS), they do indicate that the OHS is still actively opening competitions when needed. As we highlighted earlier this year, little information was shared by OHS at the NHSA Winter Leadership Institute about the status of the next round of DRS. Typically, DRS grants open for competition in fall or early winter. We’ll share more as we learn more, so stay tuned! If your program is competing for funding and needs help, please be in touch. We offer a variety of grant writing services to support programs in DRS and writing competitive grant applications.
