SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Richmond Highway Scholarship Fund

For the community by the community

Foundations for Families’ corporate giving program, The Richmond Highway Scholarship Fund, is an opportunity to give children living in low income families access to high quality child care and a chance to enter kindergarten ready to succeed in school.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 children on the Fairfax County waiting list for subsidized child care.  Without subsidy dollars, their families either can’t afford to work, or they land in unregulated child care environments so that their parents can maintain employment. With no private community action, these families are stuck in a cycle of poverty and unemployment or children remain in sub-standard care environments.  We know that both of these situations are environmental risk factors for abuse and neglect in families

By acting as a community to provide opportunity for employment and access to quality child care, we contribute to children’s readiness to succeed in school and we give a family the chance to work or attend job training.  Ultimately, we bring those dollars back to our neighborhoods in the form of spending and we contribute to a healthier, more productive community.

The Richmond Highway Scholarship Fund works in collaboration with the Fairfax County Office for Children to provide stop-gap measures to families who are unable to access child care for financial reasons, or who are at risk of losing their child care subsidy funds for a variety of reasons.

Join the hundreds of local businesses in the South County region to support the children and families of our community. Make The Richmond Highway Scholarship Fund a part of your corporate giving plan.    Contact Candace Radoski at 703-299-6570 to find out how.
